The real meat and potatoes of any turbocharger's exhaust system is the downpipe. The downpipe is responsible for transporting waste exhaust away from the turbine wheel as efficiently as possible. And more often than not factory downpipes are designed with emissions as the primary consideration, not performance. Replacing the factory downpipe with a quality high-flow unit is arguably the most effective way to improve turbo response and breathing efficiency.
The cp-e™ downpipe for the Genesis Coupe 2.0T is built using only the finest materials that we have to offer. The 3”OD pipe is mandrel bent on our in-house bender, and all pipes are TIG or MIG welded by our talented welding staff. Instead of using cheaper thin gauge steel and labeling an exhaust as “light weight”, we use premium 16 gauge Super Buffed stainless steel that’s designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle, and not just a handful of races.
The downpipe is designed to bolt to the stock turbo and to the stock catback, as well as our quad tip dual catback. In full turboback guise the cp-e™ downpipe and catback liberated nearly 20 wheel horsepower and similar torque in the top end, which otherwise would have been wasted in pumping the exhaust out of the factory exhaust system. The exhaust also generated an average of 10 wheel horsepower and similar torque across the board.
One more point - The downpipe design also has provisions for a cp-e™ turbo upgrade! Customers that bought our downpipe for a stock turbo but will be installing a turbo upgrade later will be able to swap a section of the cp-e™ downpipe for a fraction of the cost of a new downpipe and bolt directly to the new turbo.
